“Abeline on Her Mind” is a cautionary tale that warns men to be sensitive to women’s needs. Wholesome memories of time with an ex lead Jewell to ask for another chance (“Why We Said Goodbye”). Despite a mild profanity, “You Know How Women Are” honors a wife who has been a faithful friend through hard times. “I Wanna Thank Everyone” teaches perseverance, finding incentive to succeed amid rejection. Jewell sweetly recalls a family history of bad breaks known as “O’Reilly Luck” (it culminates with his immigrant grandpa missing the boat to America—the Titanic). This artist has a healthy spiritual bent, boldly crediting the Lord with his strength and salvation (“One Step at a Time”). A little girl’s questions about heaven fill “Help Pour Out the Rain (Lacey’s Song),” a song on which Jewell longs to “see my family and meet Jesus face to face,” however ...
It implies that angels are not created beings, but the form humans take when they die.
After a decade of frustration as a demo singer, Buddy Jewell has arrived and turned in a real gem!
