Alan Jackson Drive
On "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," Jackson salutes the heroes of Sept. 11, mourns for those who suffered loss, speaks of reordered priorities and shares 1 Corinthians 13:13 (adding "I know Jesus and I talk to God"). Childhood recollections of steering an old Ford and piloting a plywood boat with his dad makes the singer want to create similar memories with his three daughters ("Drive"). Admitting to his woman that he has fallen short (missed an anniversary, forgotten to take out the trash, etc.), he tells her he loves her and calls himself a "Work in Progress." "That’d Be Alright" longs for a lighter load and more positivity in the world. A guy prone to fumbling in the realm of romance determines to do better next time "When Love Comes Around." Elsewhere, a love struck guy rejoices, not taking for granted his "Once in a Lifetime Love."

After losing his lady, Jackson turns to alcohol on "Designated Drinker" (at least he gives up his car keys before getting smashed).

With one exception, Drive motors long smoothly, powered by songs about family, faith, romantic love and patriotism. If only AJ had resisted falling back on the country music convention of drowning heartache with booze.
