Britney Spears Britney
From Mag to Web
On "I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," this 19-year-old admits, "I used to think I had the answers to everything." "Bombastic Love" looks forward to meeting Mr. Right, while "That’s Where You Take Me" expresses affection to a special guy. "Overprotected" asks, "God, I need some answers/What am I to do with my life?/How am I supposed to know what’s right?" However . . .

There’s no evidence to suggest that she’s heeding divine counsel. In fact, Spears uses that track to belligerently declare her independence, tossing in a mild profanity for effect. Expressing similar assertiveness, she wants access to the club scene and asks a partner, "Baby, don’t you wanna dance upon me?" on the suggestive "I’m a Slave 4 U." Sexual overtones also grind with dance lingo on "Anticipating" (Spears wants to be "turned on" and made to "feel sexy"), and "Boys," which finds her eyeing a guy with an intent to "get nasty." A casual encounter at a jukebox leads a couple to head "home where we can be alone" on a remake of Joan Jett’s 1982 hit "I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll." Immodest liner photos feature short shorts and lots of cleavage.

First CD: Wholesome lyrics and pix. Second CD: Positive lyrics, racy photos. This CD: The transformation from virgin to vixen continues. Britney uses sleazy outfits, sensual themes and occasional profanity to prove she’s not a little girl anymore. We’re convinced. Send her packing.
