Happy to "sit outside heaven’s door," lead vocalist Jason Wade wants to discern the voice of God on "Breathing." Other songs don’t identify the Lord by name, but have a distinctly spiritual flavor. The singer honors a source of strength and peace ("Everything"), expresses an abiding love and desire for truth ("Hanging by a Moment") and wants to hear a certain authoritative voice amid life’s "Cling and Clatter." "Simon" and "Quasimodo" empathize with people who’ve been hurt or abused. A man struggles to embrace blind faith on "Unknown." Elsewhere, the artist lauds a rock-solid friend ("Only One") and humbly admits that he doesn’t have all the answers to life’s questions, yet is committed to "Trying."
